Markham Men's Recreational Hockey league

WHO WE ARE

Markham Men?s Recreational Hockey League, also known as MMRHL, began its operation in 1977-78.  We are a non profit, grassroots organization which provides a recreation hockey opportunity for adult residents of the Town of Markham, both past and present.  Our direction is based on the following principles:

ARTICLE II

1.     To provide hockey for all men who wish to play regardless of race, colour, creed, or ability.

2.     To promote the interest of the league.

3.     To institute and regulate competition in various series.

4.     To promote the good name of Markham through our various teams.

Originally constituted as a 6 team league with 96 participants, we have now grown to 22 teams and over 350 members.  Registration is limited to those who have attained the age of thirty in their year of application.

Our season commences mid September and runs to the end of March, with weekly Sunday games played at Markham Centennial Centre and Mount Joy Arena.

At the request of Markham Parks and Recreation, MMRHL provides guidance and counsel regarding the future direction of all recreational activities within the town.  Also, as an active member of the Markham Sport Council, MMRHL supports their efforts to promote sport as an integral component of daily life.  In 2008, mayor Frank Scarpitti, acting on behalf of the Council, presented MMRHL with an Award of Achievement recognizing our contribution of 30 years to the recreational needs of our citizens.

Over the years our local charitable contributions are estimated at $100,000.00.
